Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is an annual herb of the genus Malicum in the family gramineae.Culms stout, smooth glabrous, erect, up to 100 cm tall.Leaf sheaths loosely encrusted, much glabrous or base pilose;Flanked by two lanceolate lobes;Lingual membranous, leaf blade flattened.Spikes, spikelets dense, spikelets sessile, glumes linear lanceolate, pubescent, palea several as long as lemma.Caryopsis adherent to palea when ripe, not protuberant.
